Natalie

I sat there, listened to Bre, and gave her the best advice I could. I debated if I wanted to reveal my secret crush to her and decided not to. I mean, Blake wasn’t a threat to my relationship, so it was no need to mention him. However, I had to share it with someone, because for some reason, he constantly invaded my thoughts lately, more often than Gary did, and that could potentially become a problem.

“So Bre, I have to tell you something.”

“Oh Lord,” she said and let out a breath.

“No, it’s nothing bad. I mean, it’s not good, but not bad.”

“Okay, then what? Please don’t tell me you’re pregnant too.”

“Oh, hell no. I’m not making babies until I’m married and my career is stabilized.”

“I know that’s real.”

“Girl, don’t you ever say that shit again to me,” I chuckled. Gary and I hadn’t even discussed kids.

“Then what?”

“Do you remember Blake Weston?”

“I do. He was like your largest client.”

“Yes, and he is still my largest client.”

“What! He left the firm and followed you?”

“Yes.”

Giving me a suspicious look, she asked, “Okay, did you miss telling me something?”

“No,” I giggled.

“Nat, come on now. What did you do to pull a client like Blake Weston from the firm? I mean he is, or should I say was one of our largest accounts.”

“I didn’t do anything, other than my job.”

She looked at me and narrowed her eyes.

“What? I’m serious, girl. He has been professional from day one.”

“Okay, so what do you have to tell me about Blake, other than you snatched him from one of the most prestigious firms in D.C.”

“I’m simply good at what I do, Bre; however…” I paused. I got goose bumps every time he crossed my mind.

“Come on Nat, spill.”

“Well, we met last week and for the first time, I felt some type of way. I mean, Blake is drop-dead gorgeous, especially for a white man, but that day, he smelled fantastic and he was dressed in a tailor-made masterpiece. I even had a flash that I could very well be with someone like him.”

“And where is Gary going to be in this fantasy?”

“Bre, I’m not leaving Gary, nor am I contemplating anything other than business with Blake, but I am not going to lie, I’ve sorta been crushing on him.”

She swallowed the remainder of her wine, and I quickly reached for the unfinished bottle that I had sat on the coffee table near us, to add more.

“Well good. You and Gary are finally at a great place. Don’t go messing it up. You two have come way too far to fuck it up now.”

“I know, but I had to share what I’m feeling with someone,” I said, adding more to my glass and that finished off the bottle. Bre and I had a lot more to discuss, so I got up to go over to the wine fridge to make sure the same brand and flavor was chilled.

“You might as well open it, girl; I don’t know how you thought this little ass bottle was going to be enough.
